| Run for Adoption, Inc. is a
non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for retired racing
greyhounds. |
|
|
We have established
procedures to ensure that retired racers are placed in loving
homes with people who will take good care of them. This process
was designed with the intention of finding forever homes for
greyhounds and to guarantee, insofar is it is possible, that the
first placement will be the forever one for all concerned.
Completion of an
Application
If, after reviewing the information on
this web site, you are interested in adopting a greyhound, you
will be asked to complete an
Adoption
Application. Download this one to complete and mail,
or call one of the reps to receive an application via regular
mail or email.
Visit by a Placement
Representative
After your completed application has been
received and reviewed by the placement committee, a
representative will arrange a convenient time to visit with you
in your home. This step is to help us assure that your home
environment will likely be a safe one for a greyhound so the
placement can be a wonderful experience for all concerned.
Preparing to Place a
Greyhound
Before a greyhound is released to the new
owner, it is neutered/spayed, receives full dental care
(cleaning, polishing, and any extractions that may be
necessary), worming, blood testing, and shots
(DHLPP,Rabies, Bordatella and Corona vaccinations). In
addition, each dog comes with a martingale collar and lead, a
GPA identification tag, and a book about retired racers in the
home setting.
Placement of the
Greyhound
When your new dog arrives, you and your
placement representative will sign a one-page adoption contract
which clearly outlines our expectations of a greyhound home and
also helps to assure all parties that, should the adoption not
work out for the family - or the dog – the dog will be returned
to GPA-RM.
Adoption Fee
We request a $250 adoption donation to
help defray the costs of veterinary work, transportation,
adoption books, collars & leads, advertising and care of special
needs dogs.
Follow-Up
You will be contacted by your adoption
rep at regular intervals to offer support and make sure the
placement is working for the family and for the greyhound.
